22 November—New Moon occurs at 4:32 AM Pacific Standard Time at 00 Sagittarius 07: ‘Everything Old is New Again’

The Sabian is, ‘Retired Army Veterans Gather To Reawaken Old Memories’. That, my friends, is a Re–Union. The implication is that we will see something resurrected, back together again, in imitation of a previous state or condition with the purpose of Re-Membering. This echoes the Saturn in Scorpio ‘setting’ for the New Moon, wherein reality contains layers of memory, mystery, nuance, truth, and many versions of ‘what is’ as seen through varied viewpoints and times—and the NM resurrects something specific to the re-uniting of those who experienced a past condition together. It’s perhaps past contacts brought together to celebrate that past, to re-live it, in a way—or to resurrect from memory something buried, forgotten, or ignored—which brings us back to Black Moon Lilith. ‘Everything old is New Again’ is an old saying (and song!) that may be what we’re humming come New Moon time.

Today’s image is the Egyptian god Osiris, a Scorpionic figure (a god of resurrection and the Underworld) reassembled by his sister/ wife Isis after his jealous brother (Set, for those keeping score) tore him to pieces. Isis put the pieces back together and wrapped them for burial; the one missing piece (the phallus) she fashioned herself so that he would be whole. She was then impregnated by the already-dead Osiris, with the result being she gave birth to their child, Horus. This image fits quite nicely with both the Sabian of the NM (a Reunion) and with NM’s contact to Saturn, still in Scorpio. The implication for we mortals may be that there’s still some seminal, creative ‘juice’ to be extracted from a real-life situation that by all rights should be (or at least appears to be) dead and lifeless. The New Moon may make it clear what this component, if handled correctly, can be used to create; all we have to do is ‘put the pieces together’.

The above is from the current ECLIPSE subscription package. ECLIPSE will be ending in its present form on 1 July 2015. Subscribers, I’ll send you all the details shortly for those who’d like to extend their subscriptions through to the end. Anyone interested in a new subscription: sign up now and receive the entire time through the end date for the new subscription price–that’s 7 months +–I won’t be accepting any new subscribers or re-ups from lapsed subscriptions after 1 January 2015. When ECLIPSE ends, all subscribers current at that point will receive a free copy of ‘Vesta in the Natal Chart’, my almost completed (and long promised!) new book. The book will be for sale through Dog & Sunflower Press after that point. So, the 6th year of ECLIPSE begins and ends in 6 short months–Thank you All for a wonderful run!!

5 AM PDT of the 23rd the Virgo Moon conjuncts Venus and semi-sextiles Black Moon Lilith. Criticism in relationships stems from issues ignored or denied; if anything comes up, recognize at once that this is something that needs to be faced head-on. 7 AM PDT the Lunar influence rests at the midpoint of Juno and Vesta. Empowerment must be balanced with our dedication to important causes, to home, and to the mate–not taking these into consideration risks giving our power to the ‘wrong’ people or causes, or supporting what doesn’t support us. 9 AM PDT the Moon trines Sedna. Instinct flavors feelings; we have a direct pipeline at this point to intuitive knowledge–use it. Void begins at 10:51 AM PDT; the Moon enters Libra at 9 PM sharp Pacific time.

New Moon in Libra occurs on the 23rd at 11:13 PM Pacific time at 1 Libra 07: A Test of Power

The New Moon makes no aspects to other bodies—very unusual. The closest thing we have is a semi-square to Ceres, so we’ll go with that. This suggests that what begins here relates to power expression in the personal life, and specifically to how effective we actually feel in ordering our world and having an impact. The aspect itself implies that this will be a mild but still difficult issue. The one thing we should be aware of is that the likely outlet for this power-testing will be in relationships, especially with the mate or partner, though it’s also possible that we may see new starts of a ‘natural’ variety in the House where the New Moon falls. You have a birthday New Moon, dear Virgo, one that may challenge you: to use your creativity, to sort reality from illusion, to seek a deeper spiritual experience in your life, to be spontaneous, to connect with Higher Mind, to join and/ or lead like-minded groups–in general, you’ll receive the same imperative everyone else does for the New Moon, the one that for everyone else lasts through to the next New Moon–it’s just that for you it will be very personal and the influence will last (as a form of guidance) all year. Following an independent but inner-inspired Path will really pay off for you, Virgo, in Love, Money, or both–so Happy Birthday, and good luck!

Weak sauce or not, we’ll all get a taste. Jean Béraud’s ‘The Drinkers’ 1908 {{PD}}

New Moon in Leo occurs 26 July at 3 Leo 51 at 3:41 PM Pacific time. The Leo New Moon roars at us mid-afternoon Pacific time, and so in most of the Western hemisphere may go unnoticed in the daytime sky. This New Moon is conjunct Jupiter, and we can count a loose sesquiquadrate to Chiron—and with lenient orbs a square to Mars, brand new in Scorpio.

This suggests that what develops at the NM seems much more formidable, with tougher requirements for action and choice, and much more serious stakes, than it really is; it appears that this conflict or challenge will in actuality be ‘weak sauce’, as the phrase goes—with effects likely concentrated in the natal Houses holding the NM and t Mars. We may work ourselves up, or the social circle may make noises that suggest this is a bigger event than it is—but what happens, or what choices we must make or actions take, will be much less effective and/ or meaningful to our Path than we might think in the moment. Mars new in Scorpio could be more concerned with being taken seriously (even being considered ‘dangerous’ in some sense) than in getting into action, and a square to Sun-Jupiter only adds incentive to broadcast the Self and ‘shine’—no one reacts well to that kind of pressure, especially after the somewhat debilitating experience of the Saturn-Uranus direction changes.

New Moon at 5 Cancer 37 on 27 June: Creativity and Its Pitfalls

The Cancer New Moon trines Neptune, and with some leniency for non-Ptolemaic aspects, we can count it as semi-sextile the Juno-Venus combo in Gemini. This makes for new beginnings that are strongly emotional and are relationship, values, information, or communion-oriented; it also may generate emotion-driven creativity, inspiration, and imagination that have an agenda of furthering communication and caring. What we musn’t overlook, though, is that relationships and empowerment issues (especially whose ‘rights’ are granted by whom) will play a bigger part than we expect; they will act as an undercurrent, and issues of status, control, and emotional ‘territory’ will loom large in expression of NM energies. One important thing we must note about Juno-Venus is the potential for co-opting others’ resources, energy, relationships, or even ideas (the Gemini placement), as well as the possibility of jealousy surrounding creative energy expression. It’s not pretty, but it’s a whole picture, one that can equip us to create and protect our creation—for certainly that’s part of the Cancer mandate, a facet of nurture and care—and surely we know by now that to reject the darkness is to invite it in, sit it in the best chair, and give it a muffin.

New Moon in Gemini 2014: ‘A New Self-Image’

Get ready for a new You--'They Come' by Thomas Cooper Gotch pre-1931 {{PD}}

Get ready for a new You–‘They Come’ by Thomas Cooper Gotch pre-1931 {{PD}}

New Moon in Gemini occurs May 28th at 11:40 AM Pacific time at 7 Gemini 21: ‘The Birth of a New Self-Image’

A New Moon in Gemini is very much about a new way of thinking—in this case, with Mercury at 29 degrees and Neptune in the picture, it’s about a new way of seeing ourselves, of having a new Self-image, devoid of the interference of illusion, upon which we can base our thinking. Other than the NM’s square to Neptune, the only other contact is a trine to now direct though still stationary Mars. This promises confrontation that destroys illusions, changes our ideas about ourselves, and that primes us for a new course of action, with the stage for that action likely related to subjects of the House ruled by Aries in the natal chart. Recent events have set the stage for a fresh understanding of who we are, and a new way to think about ourselves in the world; this is very good, bringing a kind of thought-renewal that we are rarely able to apply so completely to our own identity—but this time we can.

The Sabian Symbol for this is, ‘Aroused Strikers Surround A Factory’. Of course we mean ‘upset’ people on strike, not the other kind *wink* But, this somewhat unfortunate choice of phrase brings up a good point: that passion is passion, whether it’s sexual, stoked by rage, or employed in service to creating a higher ideal in the world; it’s intense energy, first and foremost, and we can direct it anywhere we choose (in spite of the impression we give ourselves, that it is created by the object or cause, we really have the passion first, then find what we judge to be a suitable outlet).In this symbol we see passionate individuals mobilized to create change, specifically in (what we can assume) is the workplace; we can translate ‘workplace’ to mean ‘our world’, where we are productive, with the attitude of the strikers the one we must adopt: a willingness to put our passion into action, to call for change, with the New Moon channeling that change-energy straight to ourselves.

Congratulations, dear Gemini, your birthday this year includes a New Moon, that most refreshing of events! And with transiting Neptune squaring the Sun-Earth axis, you can take on any image you want to. Just be aware that the persona you choose has to blend with your native mentality and complement the reality picture–with relationships, finances, or both strained this year and the mental faculties stretched to their limits (meaning the mind and its ability to cope may be under a wee amount of stress), dreaming Big or re-creating who you are does have some restrictions–but as long as you keep those in mind, it’s really your imagination that’s the limit.

The Solar Eclipse April 2014: A Renaissance

'The Birth of Venus' Botticelli late 15th century {{PD}}

‘The Birth of Venus’ Botticelli late 15th century {{PD}}

The Solar eclipse occurs April 28-29 (depending on your location) at 8 Taurus 51, a New Moon that only sextiles Neptune; everything else is outside even a generous orb, with Mercury just days past Superior Conjunction (if this were moving toward the eclipse point I would consider counting it) and Mars, though moving retrograde, outside the orb for a quincunx. That lays it all on Neptune and the Sabian for this eclipse, ‘A Fully Decorated Christmas Tree’.

A Solar eclipse is when the Moon arrives at a point just right between the Earth and the Sun, so that the Moon appears to be not just conjunct the Sun, but to be aligned directly between Earth and Sun; our view of the Solar orb is blocked (occulted), at least from particular points on Earth relative to the path of the eclipse. It’s an instance, in symbolic terms, of Lunar sensibilities temporarily blocking the light of the Sun (objective consciousness) from reaching Earth. That suggests that Lunar issues for a time overwhelm Solar ones. Normally as the Sun moves from sign to sign we see our attention drawn to each new chart area, and facets of that chart area are ‘stirred’ by the stimulation of the Sun’s light; in one of those areas, the one where the Solar eclipse occurs, we find that for the 6 months between the initiating eclipse and the next Solar one the energy that would typically draw our regard takes on an emotional, subjective lens, one where intuition and our feelings trump the clear, unblinking light of the Sun’s relative objectivity.

The New Moon, eclipse or not, also indicates new starts; so, we’re looking at a new beginning that may be born of ideals, fantasy, or creative application (Neptune), and that could represent (the Christmas tree) a time of celebration, could usher in an ‘ideal’ period, or present the beginning of a personal creative initiative (birth) or renaissance (re-birth). We’re looking at a pair of factors (the Sabian and Neptune) that describe personal ideals–but particularly with the Sabian, we have to note that the celebration is based on our relationship to the unseen, on faith. It’s not related to any specific religion, but instead on our individual idea of a kind of ‘perfect moment’, the kind that memories are built on and that are striven for consistently in everyday life. We also must note that this is a material celebration, in the sense that we embody our feeling in decoration, gifts, and storytelling, all very Neptunian.

The eclipse may be the inception of a ‘honeymoon’ period between ourselves and our imaginations, where we attempt to build our fantasy life. This is good, as we aim to represent our ideals in our material surroundings and in what we produce, but falling as it does during Mars retrograde, we may want to hold off on actual manipulation of the surroundings until after Mars’ direction, on 19 May. Until then we might do best to muster all our creative sensibilities, ponder what we truly want, and plan–then move when the action urge is once again accessible as a ‘stream’ into which we can launch our intentions.

'Cornstalks in the Moonlight' Theodor Kittelsen c1900 {{PD}}

‘Cornstalks in the Moonlight’ Theodor Kittelsen c1900 {{PD}}

The eclipse of 15 April falls at 25 Libra 15, and is a Full Moon (Lunar eclipse), conjunct transiting energies Ceres, North Node, and Vesta, opposed t Juno, quincunx t Sedna, sesquiquadrate t Venus, and sextile t Pallas. On its own the eclipse suggests a watershed point in partnership, cooperative efforts, artistic endeavors, and in regard to ‘the Other’, everything and everyone outside ourselves. A Full Moon brings an ending, but within this is found a new beginning; this particular culmination/ beginning is amplified by an eclipse, and married (so Libra!) to Nature/ Authority (Ceres), the future (NN), and to an impeccable level of dedication of life energy (Vesta)–it is, in effect, a relational seed point that carries a walloping life force–and this contradicts the kind of puny, Willful, egotistical sense of empowerment that may be found in negative manifestation of Juno in Aries (opposition), as well as causing adjustment to the unconscious (Sedna) and cooperation with what’s ultimately wise (Pallas). The Sabian for this eclipse is, ‘An Eagle And A Large White Dove Change Into Each Other’ This symbolism implies that the ‘other’ focus of Libra involves an actual transformation of one half of a pair into the other, and vice versa; what we are observing or are partnered with, then, becomes what we are.

The Solar eclipse occurs April 28-29 (depending on your location) at 8 Taurus 51, a New Moon that only sextiles Neptune; everything else is outside even a generous orb, with Mercury just days past Superior Conjunction (if this were moving toward the eclipse point I would consider counting it) and Mars, though moving retrograde, outside the orb for a quincunx. That New Moon seed may be planted in a dream. ‘Legend of St. Francis–Dream of the Palace’ Detail, by Giotto di Bondone {{PD}}

The New Moon occurs just a hair’s-breadth before the end of the day on the 28th, Pacific time (at 10 Pisces 39 at 11:59 PM PST). In Pisces the New Moon promises a new start for everyone, a Collective seed moment that carries all possibilities, and for the individual, it can spark a new dream, ideal, or delusion, with all the positives and negatives that those might entail.

This meeting of Sun and Moon happens widely conjunct Chiron, semi-sextile Uranus, trine Jupiter; the NM also makes a wide sesquiquadrate to Mars in Libra, which is stationed but still technically direct. These contacts infuse the creative spark or dream planted for each of us with the power of healing, an aspect of the radical or the surprising, the opportunity to expand in some way (probably in what we care about, with Jupiter in Cancer); the only discord comes from an over-exercise of ego, or perhaps from taking action based on a delusion (or perhaps based on one’s partner’s delusion, with Mars in Libra!) Look to the natal House where this NM falls for a sense of where a fresh creative development, inspiration, opportunity, chance, or mistake based on something misperceived or misunderstood might appear. If this NM makes contact to a natal body or point, consider that natal energy vital to what comes about, especially in terms of how and where (by the House the contacted body rules) the new beginning may show itself.
