‘The Accident’ By Willem Geets c1899 {{PD}}

Cupped between ruler Saturn and Pluto, the New Moon partial solar eclipse occurs at 15 Capricorn 24, Sun and Moon first coming to the same degree and minute just before 5:27 PM Pacific time. The eclipse forms only two aspects other than those wide conjunctions to Saturn and Pluto, a sextile to Neptune and semi-square to Venus, making both the atmosphere brought forward by other aspects, and those lonely contacts to the Old Man, the Creative, and the King of the Underworld (plus a sideswipe from Love and/ or Money), much more important than they might otherwise be, especially since Saturn is ruler of the solar event itself. A New Moon is an inception point, a beginning, even when we can’t see it as such; an eclipse is a wipe-out, a clean slate in some form. Here the event falls in Capricorn, signaling that there’s something new about the Establishment or brewing in established methods, ways, or rituals, some authority altered, rule changed, restriction broken, or safety net removed. On large, societal terms this might apply to the new congress in the United States, where an unprecedented turnover sees more women and individuals of color, not to mention many young and more Progressive members, taking their seats than ever before.

In personal terms this event speaks of serious transformation that either frees up the creative energy or leads one to accept a delusion or misconception as the Truth. Whichever direction one goes, it will be because there’s some payoff, benefit, or promise of reward, or even of affection, that is driving the acceptance of illusion or the re-making of what’s established into something closer to the ideal. The need for Love or Money will shape our response to the solar eclipse, probably quite subtly, but it’s in channeling the creative and holding to the ideal that we gain some agency over what changes, and so make the best of things, rather than succumbing to moments of confusion or chaos.

One interesting thing is that we may meet the effects of Time at this point; its passage figures in to potentials not just for change but for destruction. If the eclipse removes something from the life at this time, you can be sure not just that its time is over, but that there’s a need for something new to take its place.

Side currents may be generated by the passing through of Vesta in Aquarius conjoined the Black Moon Lilith point, Venus trine Chiron and quincunx Uranus, and Mercury square Hygeia. These may describe surface matters that overlay (and sometimes obscure) the more intense and likely permanent changes prompted by the solar event that will be happening mostly below consciousness, or possibly out of sight altogether. Anger, especially at injustices, may commandeer the attention and so make us look away from the deeper changes in progress. To some extent, we’ll see events test the viability of our highest values, and if there’s anything wounding in our relationships, we’ll be more than aware of it. Thinking will likely run contrary to what we know to be healthy–and this may be the strongest sign of all that the solar eclipse will be forcing change and challenging assumptions–so do your best to work with the prevailing energies, rather than fighting them.

The Sabian symbol for the eclipse is, ‘School Grounds Filled With Boys And Girls In Gymnasium Suits’. This may emphasize the ‘learning’ nature of the eclipse events, and we see this echoed in the activity of Mercury, Uranus, Aquarius (ancient ruler of which is Saturn), but, in the case of Physical Education class, a learning about or through physical experience–so perhaps pointing us in the direction of the material manifestations of Capricorn and the physical systems that provide security, support, and restriction. Too, this image is one of individuals organized into a single entity, a class–and that could suggest that what changes for one individual may change for many others who hold similar positions.

Do we have command of what will change, with this eclipse? Not really–the best we can do is find creative outlets and use them, knowing that not all changes will be in our hands, nor will shifts in responsibility, restrictions, or requirements in venues where we play a part be totally under control, ours or anyone else’s. Roll with it, and allow this first New Moon of the New Year to reveal itself as it will, without too much resistance on our part.

22 December 2018 Full Moon in Cancer: Beacon in the Dark

‘Vuurtoren in de branding’ By Hendrik Willem Mesdag c1885 {{PD}}

This Full Moon in Cancer (22 December 9:48 AM PST at 00 Cancer 49) follows on the heels of the solstice (21 December 2:23 PM Pacific time–winter in the Northern hemisphere/ summer in the Southern hemisphere). For we northerners, the closeness of the two events makes the revelations and conclusions of the Full Moon a kind of beacon in the dark, both literally and figuratively, as Luna lights the way out of the longest night of the year, at least here in North America.

The Full Moon is apex to a Fist of God with base of Venus-Ceres square Black Moon Lilith, out-of-element sextile Uranus, T-square with close Chiron-Hygeia conjunction, novile to Juno. Always, a Full Moon brings an ending, a culmination, a conclusion, and this can signal a definite end or can usher in a new stage, or an entirely new beginning. In Cancer these endings carry a heavier-than-usual emotional component, a sensitivity to the import of what’s concluding, and intimations through the feeling nature as to what’s beginning. Emotional conclusions are reached and intuitive information received; that is, we realize with surety how our feelings resolve on some subject related to the House (or across the axis) in the natal chart in which the FM occurs. This resolution may come consciously (more likely if the FM falls above the horizon in the natal chart) or through the unconscious ‘assembly’ of information learned and intuited, presented to the conscious mind as it coheres into a relevant picture under the Full Moon’s light. It’s a ‘just dawning on us’ event, so to speak, represented by the very early sign degree in which the culmination occurs.

The aspects for this Lunar event suggest that what arises is conflict, stress, or tension that once expressed creates a more healthy atmosphere, leading to a new, unanticipated level of empowerment or a rise in or change of status. The challenge will be to stay true to our best Self even as we deal with what may be a messy situation; with Black Moon Lilith involved we may have to face what we’d rather ignore or suppress, what we may feel ashamed of or guilty about (though as we know, those are distortions, re-directions of anger as we avoid sending it to the appropriate target), and we may be required to deal with matters that enrage us, making things even more difficult.

There is also a matter of conflict among authorities, with authorities, or over who holds authority and so who holds the reins to assets. We may only observe this authority-centered upset, or we may find it angers us in the way it threatens to wrest agency from us or those we love. Know that misdirection of energy is a real possibility, and that inappropriate anger and overstepping of boundaries are the avenues of least resistance–and knowing that you can take a step back from the fray, receiving or causing no harm.

But, there’s a promise of healing, once we’ve located what or whom we care about, what needs our nurture, or what may offer nurture to us (Cancer), and caring mobilizes skills, especially the ones that only we can wield in just that particular, individual way we have. The key is twofold: pinpoint our feelings, and see where they can and should be ‘applied’, and be fearless in meeting, dealing with, and then letting go of whatever conflict transpires. Take care not to confuse the order of this–it doesn’t do anyone any good to fight first, then figure out what they want! This scenario probably won’t unfold in an easily palatable way, but will serve the cause of necessary emotional processing that supports both our health and our unique expression and empowerment.

The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is, ‘On A Ship The Sailors Lower An Old Flag And Raise A New One’. This may be a change of signal flag–letting others know changes in our intents or destination–or a complete change of authority, the new flag showing who is now ‘running the ship’. In any case, it’s a symbol of communicating identity, which is something we do quite naturally when we set priorities (identify what we care about) and then speak up in defense of or in dealing with what comes before us (with our Self-image shaping the forms and character of our assertions).

We also look at the Sun’s Sabian, as it’s the source of the light play that gives us the Full Moon event in the first place: ‘An Indian Chief Claims Power From The Assembled Tribe’. In this Full Moon’s aspects we have seen a recurring thread concerning individual authority; this symbol suggests that what generates the conflict, the expression, and the eventual healing, all stem from issues surrounding who holds the reins, who should hold the reins, and these may be best determined by who is supported by the group–but then again, the upheaval may come from the fact that this is tribal thinking–and if there’s anything we know at this point, it’s that blind tribalism is positively the most destructive way of organizing our priorities and our lives.

This Full Moon offers a beacon in the darkness of tribalism, help in sorting out the competition for authority, and shines a light on both our duty to use our skills and the ways in which we can access healing and enhance overall health.

New Moon in Sagittarius 6 December 2018 What Will You Learn?

By Andrew McMillan – http://www.public-domain-image.com/new-moon-at-sunset.jpg, {{PD}}

The New Moon occurs at 11:20 PM Pacific Standard time of the 6th at 15 Sagittarius 07. This New Moon falls square to the close conjunction of Mars and Neptune in Pisces, which adds an active ‘punch’ to discovered facts, new journeys, new beliefs, new horizons, fresh starts, to knowledge exchanged and the exotic or foreign revealed. The NM beginning may arise from an action, choice, or assertion that carries ideals, creativity, or delusion, or may be the cause of such; in either instance, the event of the New Moon brings conflict or tension to a head: action or a choice based on a dream (Mars-Neptune), for example, could bring upset for what facts it uncovers or beliefs it reveals (Sagittarius).

By Johannes Hevelius 1689 {{PD}}

The New Moon also sextiles both Black Moon Lilith and Pallas, though it doesn’t fall at their midpoint, suggesting the interactions with the NM are unrelated to each other. The New Moon carries the aura of wisdom or practicality, or may call on you to use skills, and its new starts may also be driven by material that’s been denied, that’s enraging, or that’s perceived as unjust–and though we each may respond to both sextiles, my sense is one or the other sextile will predominate for the individual. Too, if you have a natal placement at 13-15 Taurus your natal body is apex to a Finger of God with NM and Pallas as its base, steering you in the direction of a smart beginning or revelation that inspires expression of the natal energy–or if you have a natal placement at 13-15 Cancer, you have apex to another Finger with base of NM and Black Moon Lilith, which points to the New Moon stirring up or making undeniable what’s been shunted aside until now, forcing you to deal with the situation using the natal energy.

We also have a loose configuration, a Fist of God, with base of Uranus square the North Node, apex the New Moon. Here the individual clashes with her or his own life direction, possibly rebelling from a long-planned route. Is this a good rebellion, freeing the individual from unfair restraints? Or is it a rebellion led by the insistence on seeing the Self as independent, or as ‘special’, trying to prove uniqueness via erraticism or an uncooperative attitude? This likely plays in tune with the Merc direction, described below.

The New Moon also rests at the (very rough) midpoint of the Venus-Vesta square, suggesting that the NM event may carry the essence of the clash between highest values and wants. With Venus in Scorpio and Vesta in Aquarius, the primal nature of both what’s revered and what’s desired may be displaced digging for a ‘Truth’ that may or may not differ from the surface, and in intellectualizing what’s better felt through New Moon experience.

All the aspects suggest at least some effort (the sextiles), or friction (all the rest of the aspects) occurs, and that may be the place to focus: on the ways in which we are causing or using the available energy. Don’t think of it as energy going out, so much as an undifferentiated flow, ebbing and surging all at once, so that we are receptive (Lunar energy) as much as we are active and choosing (square to Mars, all hard aspects).

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘Sea Gulls Fly Around A Ship In Expectation Of Food’. The birds are looking for sustenance, but what does the presence of sea gulls say to the sailors? That they are near land. This is an image of promise, beyond the survival needs, to arrival at a ‘new destination’. This suggests that the land we find ourselves in post-New Moon will be solid, whether it’s familiar or unexplored, verdant and populated or a deserted wasteland, welcoming or forbidding.

Mercury also goes direct today, ready to perfect a Water Grand Trine with Chiron and the North Node. That suggests that wounds and/ or the opportunity to employ skills figure strongly in thinking, and so in shaping the life direction. We find emotional balance in this regard, probably surrounding the mentality finding a ‘groove’ and falling into it. Sometimes a subdued rhythm to life is the most desirable thing imaginable.

Outlook for the 5th is here–scroll down for previous days. Have a wonderful New Moon, and please consider making a book purchase, rating my books on Goodreads, or rating my astrology on Facebook–thank you for your participation and feedback–it’s all very much appreciated!

‘The Nickel Belt’ By Franklin Carmichael 1928 {{PD}}

The Full Moon falls at 00 Gemini 52 at 9:39 PM PST on the 22nd. Though under other circumstances we might consider it conjoined Sedna, it’s past contact, and may better represent where we’re coming from: the subliminally loaded atmosphere that preceded the Full Moon ‘wake up’ in a retro Mercury ruled Gemini. The FM is opposed Jupiter and in wide square to Mars (in effect forming a T-square), in wide sextile to Chiron and wide trine to the South Node. (When I specify ‘wide’ for an aspect, I’m speaking relatively, considering the event requires fairly close contact, and the strength of the aspect itself affects just how much of a range to consider.)

A Full Moon delivers something to us, completed, perfected, an ending, conclusion, or denouement that, in this case, sparks the germ of some brand new idea. So very early in Gemini, the FM says, ‘From that ending comes this beginning.’ What flickers may be dim, held somewhere in the back of consciousness, or may seem to face insurmountable facts or beliefs (Jupiter opp) or may contradict (the square) our own Will, choices, or actions (Mars), but will be both healing (Chiron) and bring forward useful facets of the past (SN)–and that should reassure us that what begins here, much as the ego may fight it, is really a good thing. Whatever it calls us to do, change, or be, whatever the suggestion put forward by the Lunar light, it will be a big deal, if not now, then when it finally grows from germ to bud, which may be the point when you see why this idea, thought, or communication (Gemini) matters so much.

The Sabian for the Full Moon in Gemini is, ‘A Glass-Bottomed Boat Reveals Undersea Wonders’. What’s conveyed (the symbol of the boat as conveyance) is clear to us, if we’ll only look down (the SN past). Viewed through the lens of emotions (the water) we begin to understand something that was hidden to us (undersea), before now. It’s this understand that sparks the new idea in the mind, the one that finds its origins at this point in the Lunar cycle.

We also look at the source of the light for a Full Moon; the Sabian for the Sun is, ‘Retired Army Veterans Gather To Reawaken Old Memories’. This image emphasizes the importance of the past, reawakened to inform the Now, and possibly points to the way we may need, in this particular instance, to ‘retire’ the Warrior spirit of Mars, if only so that we can have an inner quiet that allows the new idea to grow. We must look at what from the past has survived the conflict (the war that made them veterans), and what it can tell us about healing in the present, or even about how best to interact with social influences (Jupiter), especially those we have resisted (FM opposition/ conj Sun).

Look carefully at these children. Jacek Malczewski 1896 {{PD}}

If you celebrate Thanksgiving at this time, I wish you a wonderful holiday–and for everyone else, a wonderful week! I’ll be taking a bit of time off from the Daily posts, but will return before you know it 🙂

7 November 2018 New Moon in Scorpio: A Mandate to Create

astrology, Grand Sextile, Moon in Scorpio, My Daily Astrology Diary, New Moon, Sabian Symbols, The Lunar Essence

‘Studio in the Rue Archimède’ By Felix Nussbaum 1940 {{PD}}

The New Moon occurs at 8:02 AM Pacific standard time at 15 Scorpio 11. If we keep orbs trim (as we must–this isn’t a natal chart) we see Luna forming only two aspects, a trine to Neptune and a quindecile (165 degrees) to Uranus, this latter posited at the crisis point of 29 degrees. It’s a New Moon that has us creating from the emotional ashes (Scorpio Moon) under intense stress or pressure, but this time around we must look to the other aspects in effect to know the background against which the New Moon new starts rise.

The trine to Neptune, sitting in its own sign of Pisces, speaks of a deep Cosmic connection, inspiration and creative energy easily channeled, accessed, or dreamed (two of Pisces favored methods). The quindecile to Uranus says that the New Moon beginning may present personal difficulties, or make for a hard time as the individual tries to integrate into the group. Sudden events, surprises, shocks, impulsivity are all likely in service to Higher Mind goals–so accept and deal with what comes forward as if it’s to your benefit, no matter how it appears in the moment. For a scant few, this New Moon brings circumstances of complete deception, a scenario where fantasy is accepted wholeheartedly as fact–but surrounding dissonance, and the resonance of the current Grand Sextile, will offer plenty of clues that the fantastical scenario is illusion, rather than reality, if those individuals will only listen.

There’s also a conjunction of Pluto and Vesta, suggesting that the energy for regeneration, transformation, or re-birth arises from what we honor; we dedicate our energy, and thereby tap into the breadth of power we can, at optimum operating moments, find is ours. Chiron quincunxes Ceres=again, questions of effective power manifestation, this time with our own wounds as the biggest obstacle. Jupiter quincunxes Uranus, once more highlighting the relationship between the individual and the social order, and requiring adjustment, like it or not. And Mercury noviles Ceres, suggesting that mental acuity is reached by attuning to our most ‘natural’ Self, to those roles where we hold and exercise power. This last is a ‘glove to hand’ aspect, most usable in those areas where we rightly embrace our own authority (and useless should we try to claim authority we don’t actually hold!)

The Grand Sextile, normally a configuration of grace and a smooth interlocking of energies, is this time signalling a kind of maximum point, a set of related energy flows that for a brief time form a kind of net expressing what must be dealt with, worked through, what can no longer hold its present shape. This is shown by the very late or very early degree of the placements, suggesting huge stresses that have pushed this potential into being. Jupiter and the Nodal axis are at 29 degrees, telling us that the facts and/ or the social order, in terms of the direction it’s headed, are at a breaking point (but we didn’t need astrology to tell us that, did we?) Chiron and Juno are at 28 and 27 respectively; hurt and power expression could go farther, be more extreme, but they are certainly ripe to be handled. Pallas is at 1 Libra, and may, as latest figure in the config, tell us where this is all ultimately going: toward something wise, more practical, that is cooperative in the sense of considering all parties–so not such a bad outcome, after all that tension.

‘Smiling Girl’ By Abram Arkhipov 1920s {{PD}}

The Sabian for this New Moon needs no explanation, ‘A Girl’s Face Breaking Into A Smile’ This New Moon brings relief, of one kind or another, and vast new creative potentials, if we can get out of our own way and bring them forward.

Happy New Moon!

Full Moon in Taurus 24 October 2018 Chaos Theory

‘Moonrise’ By Béla Iványi-Grünwald 1897 {{PD}}

You’d think that with a Full Moon in Taurus, serenity would be on the agenda, a mild, calming, soothing interlude of sensory indulgence or outright peace–but it’s not. 9:45 AM PDT of the 24th the Moon perfects opposition to the Sun/ conjunction to the Earth at 1 Taurus 13, just after conjoining Uranus–and there’s our disorder, excitement, chaos culprit. Something preceding the Full Moon throws us for a loop, into a tizzy, or turns our world upside down; at the very least we are subjected to the uncontrollable, the shocking, or to the Will of the group. The emotional reveal, the ending, climax, or denouement that follows with culmination shows us either the emotional impact of material changes, or prompts material changes that then exert an emotional impact–and these may or may not follow directly from the preceding events–there’s the chance that the two may be unconnected, except for the one-two punch they convey.

Even at the height of the pre-Full Moon chaos, we’ll have the ability to ‘read’ the material world (FM wide trine to Saturn); the only question is, will we be willing to see what’s evident before us? Believe your eyes; believe solid changes or the current state of things, rather than any spin offered by others.

The opposition to Venus conjoined the origin of the light that creates the Full Moon in the first place (the Sun) suggests that mysteries surrounding, or secrets revealed concerning relationships, values, and/ or financial considerations are the well(s) from which that chaotic tension springs, probably via the review and reassessment going on due to the retrograde–and a semi-square of the Full Moon to Neptune implies delusion or inability to focus on that original material as being relevant, or in a best-case scenario says that difficulties spark creative or imaginative responses.

By Scotto Bear from North Beach, MD, USA Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic

With the Sun and Nodal axis coupled with the Full Moon event we get the dynamism of a Grand Cross, suggesting the Lunar energy has a ‘many outlets at once’ character. It may feel like events right now have a lot of moving parts, and they do, so don’t expect yourself to keep on top of all of them–right now it’s all about feeling, and seeing the reality of things (that Saturn influence, plus the way the senses and material surroundings will ‘pop’–the Taurus influence).

‘Perfume’ By Fujishima Takeji 1915 {{PD}}

The Full Moon Sabian symbol is, ‘An Electrical Storm’, perfectly reflecting the shock, potential chaos, the electrifying effect of the emotional responses to events. The symbol for the Sun, light-giver to the event, is, ‘A Delicate Bottle Of Perfume Lies Broken, Releasing Its Fragrance’. This image suggests that despite any destruction or upset (broken bottle), something beautiful arises from it that fills the air. What happens may carry the aura of trauma, sudden change, or loss, but the atmosphere itself becomes permeated, benefits from, is enhanced by, what results.

Usually I don’t discuss other events concurrent with a New or Full Moon, as they won’t impact the overall Lunar picture, though sometimes they are in play in such a way that they augment or provide background to the event. This time I think it’s worth noting that there’s a Mystic Rectangle in play: Pallas in Virgo, Jupiter in Scorpio, Chiron in Pisces, and Juno-Sedna in Taurus. These are either subtle energies (asteroids) or moving through a sign of mystery and nuance (Scorpio)–and that implies a stealthy effect here, the potential for fortuitous convergence of energies that happens right under our noses, but not necessarily on our radar.

The components of the Mystic Rectangle offer smart critical thinking (Pallas), the revealing of opportunity (Jupiter), inspiration or healing by tapping into what connects us to the Collective (Chiron), and autonomy lead by instinct (Juno-Sedna). This may reveal itself in some as confidence, in others as grasping an opportunity at just the right moment, and in still others sees them step into a social role well-timed. For some this won’t be accessed–such is the nature of more subtle energies, and certainly, one must be ‘on the move’ in some sense, or have something ‘cooking’, to take advantage of this–it won’t deliver good fortune without well-thought-out individual initiative.

Thank you to All, and enjoy your Full Moon experience!

The Full Moon falls at 1 Aries 59 at 7:52 PM Pacific time on the 24th. The FM is just past perfecting a semi-sextile to Uranus, and forms soon after contacting both Hygeia and Chiron. Our realization or culminating situation at the time of the Full Moon is a healing one, a stance that readies us to either express our own original or unique character, or to successfully join the group (both Uranus). Falling in Aries, the focus is on ourselves, our actions, our responsibilities, the role we play, the example we set–and the square to Saturn-Vesta tells us that what happens here has real world consequences to those people and things we honor or are committed to (and yes, if we count the Sun, we have a Cardinal T-square, which by its very nature demands we do something, adding strain to an already-stressful situation).

The Full Moon is in loose sextile to Mars-South Node in Aquarius, and, in the other direction, a tense, 29 degree Juno in Taurus. Our attention is pointed toward a certain tension first implied with the square to Saturn-Vesta: the intellect believes it knows the course to take, based on past experience and learning, but material matters introduce an element of stress, a sense that personal empowerment may be lost, or not enough to meet challenges, and that dealing with real-world issues may threaten our priorities and those matters to which we’re dedicated. The Full Moon energy offers direction, in the sense that it says, ‘See? You really are healed, really are stronger than you thought, really are capable of exerting your Will. Be confident; go forward. I shine the light on how to proceed.’

Mercury, along with the ever-present-in-opposition-to-a-Full Moon-Sun, opposes and yet is moving away swiftly, suggesting the mind flees, distracted by others or by the beauty it finds (Libra), and yet part of what the Full Moon supplies us is the sense that using feeling, emotion, intuition is the most effective way to gain knowledge at this time, to see which way to go–so that a less-than-focused mind isn’t really an issue.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘A Comedian Reveals Human Nature’. This says to me that the tragi-comic nature of the Universe may speak loud and clear at this time. We may find our healing or revelatory culmination delivered with irony, humor, pathos, or a sense that we are both heroes because of and victims of our own humanity, and that we may need to take a step back from events in order to really see. The Sabian for the Sun reads like a high-falutin’ version of this post: ‘The Transmutation Of The Fruits Of Past Experiences Into The Seed-Realizations Of The Forever Creative Spirit’. So, said either way, we are seeing a point of readiness, one that generates tomorrow.

The Aries ‘I Am’ coalesces under the Full Moon influence; what we are becomes apparent, what we have to work with at a personal level is clear, and what action to take, or role to play, sits before us, a product of the healing we have undergone, found by acute attention to our feeling state, ready for us to embrace.

Finger of God, Full Moon, Moon in Pisces, My Daily Astrology Diary, My Weekend Astro Diary, Sabian Symbols, The Lunar Essence

The Full Moon is sesquiquadrate the close conjunction (only three minutes apart) of Venus and Zeus in Libra, making me think maybe this is about coming to some realizations as we try to find the ‘set point’ for relationships, earnings, ambitions, passions, or some matter ruled by Venus in the natal chart. Falling in Pisces, the Full Moon brings a conclusion, ending, or shift to a new emphasis, one flavored by the imagination, delusions, deceptions, ideals, and what they have (or have not) created in the life. We look at relationships, desires, and ambitions in that ideal form we’d hoped for, and with the culmination energy see what has come about in real-world terms. The Full Moon allows us a window into the effect of our own personal fairy tales, what they’ve actually wrought, and how far from (or close to) the dream we hold they actually are.

The distance may not be all that far–or relationships, desires, and ambition considerations may all fall behind a more pressing concern, related to matters of the natal House in which the FM falls. An ending here could push the state of interaction or want to the back burner–where it could simmer through the coming month, perhaps arriving via the unconscious as it orchestrates things behind the scene in anticipation of the next New Moon.

The Full Moon may wake us up by ending some illusion. ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ By John Collier 1920 {{PD}}

The Full Moon in Pisces perfects on the 26th at 4:56 AM PDT at 3 Pisces 12. It seems to me that all the contact to Uranus and Saturn, with the Full Moon hovering just between at the rough midpoint, suggests a kind of measuring of action v. stasis, revolution v. what’s established, being original or following tradition (and this measuring probably started as early as the 22nd, as every day since has felt like one where our character and conduct was weighed in the balance). In looking at ourselves, we’ve laid the groundwork to look out at what we value, at our relationships, and at what we want–and the Full Moon delivers a conclusion, realization, or makes obvious an ending–then it’s up to us what we do with it.

The Full Moon’s sextile to Saturn catches the Black Moon Lilith point at the midpoint, and the Full Moon sextile to Uranus catches Chiron more-or-less at the midpoint, and this suggests a lot of peripheral influences on what manifests at the Full Moon–or is that a chain reaction, with wounds and those things we’ve ignored or been in denial about exerting a distinct but hard to pin down influence on proceedings? In any case, the energy of change and stasis each occupy the far ends of a fulcrum made up of the Full Moon point, with matters of hurt, rage, denial, and the demand for Self-respect tipping the scales toward either keeping things as they are, or throwing them into chaos.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘Heavy Car Traffic On A Narrow Isthmus Linking Two Seashore Resorts’. This speaks of the difficulty and confusion, the sheer stress and polluting presence, of communications and the interests that drive them. We’re all trying to have a good time, but it’s not going so well as everyone strives to have her or his message reach its destination.

For the opposing Sun the Sabian is, ‘Black And White Children Play Together Happily’. The origin of all this tension is the ideal of having everyone, no matter how contrasting the individuals seem on the surface to be, getting along and enjoying life. So, all the turbulence caused by the Full Moon influences have their roots in a wish for harmony and equality–not such an impossible dream, at all.

These ‘peripheral’ energies do form a Finger of God, providing us with an answer, when we wonder what the point of having our fairy tales washed in a stark dose of reality really is: it’s found in the sextile of Chiron to Black Moon Lilith, as base of the Finger, apex the Sun. Our wounds and our denials must be abandoned, if we’re to find a way to interact successfully; harmony (the Sun Sabian) is, in the end, something we must deliberately create ourselves.

It’s worth noting that Mars will go direct just a little over 24 hours later, suggesting that what we learn at the Full Moon must be ruminated on, just a bit, before we take action. Consider that 27 hours or so a ‘cooling off period’, allowing you to process, and to look carefully, before you leap.

The 26th, the eve of the eclipse, brings a dust-up, with Venus novile Pallas, and the Sun quincunx Saturn and opposed Mars. Facing another’s Will or aggression requires adjustment, either to our vision of the reality picture or to circumstances themselves–but if we keep what we care about (Venus) in mind, we are inspired with smart and practical means of handling things.

The Total Lunar eclipse of 27 July 2018 (1:19 PM PDT) falls at 4 Aquarius 44, forming just after contact to, and still within orb of, a retrograde Mars; the Full Moon is also in wide sextile to Chiron and wide square to Uranus, with the latter, ruler of the eclipse itself, forming a T-square with the Sun-Earth-Moon-Mars axis. The only other aspect made is a sesquiquadrate to Venus in Virgo. A Lunar eclipse is a Full Moon, and this one occurs in the crisp, intellectually-oriented, forward-thinking sign of Aquarius, suggesting the event delivers revelation or understanding. Since it’s conjoined Mars, what appears could be the consequences of our own choices or actions, as instituted at the inception point of the previous Solar eclipse/ New Moon, or it could be that what we come to understand drives a current choice or action, with consequences still to be seen. That preceding Moon opposed Pluto, suggesting a power situation revealed, and this Full Moon may be the personal response to it, something driven by our intellectualization of the events that we then act on or choose according to, as we see the outcome of the New Moon start.

The results as manifested at this Lunar eclipse point have the potential for wounding or for calling forth skills (Chiron), but in either instance they show the need to express the individuality, or to accede to the group (Uranus), and all of this is likely spurred by difficulties surrounding relationships, finances, or Self-worth (Venus).

The Full Moon Sabian is, ‘A Council Of Ancestors Is Seen Implementing The Efforts Of A Young Leader’. This suggests that the authority and experience of those who came before plays a vital role in showing us which direction to take; that is, we learn from the past, especially from the experiences of others, appropriate considering eclipses always fall near the Nodal axes, with this Lunar one conjoined the South Node.

Since this eclipse seems so directly connected to the one preceding it, we’ll forgo our usual inspection of the Sun’s Sabian for a Full Moon, since in this case our ‘source’ is the New Moon that came two weeks before. Instead we move on to the next and final component of this eclipse set, the Solar eclipse in Leo.

The 27th besides the Lunar eclipse sees Venus sesquiquadrate Mars and trine Pluto, and Merc parallels Juno, adding to the sense of personal assurance even as it disturbs intra-personal balances and hands Love or Money all the Power. In spite of our own confidence, we must bow to some large concept external that holds sway–but considering the Sabian for the eclipse, this could place us, no matter our age, in the ‘Council Of Ancestors’ in the way that we need this fresh infusion of energy or information input, need to ‘follow the leader’, in this case Love or Money, in order to keep our efforts relevant and our choices effective.

The Solar Eclipse of 12 July 2018 Through Deep Water

The Partial Solar eclipse of 12 July 2018 (7:48 PM PDT) falls at 20 Cancer 41 as the Moon, Earth, and Sun align on the same plane, allowing the Moon to ‘eclipse’ the normally dominant Sun at their New Moon meeting. This event also sees Earth, which of course is always opposed the Sun, conjoined Pluto, making its opposition to the New Moon eclipse the centerpiece of the aspect picture; asteroid Zeus forms a T-square with the Sun-Moon-Earth-Pluto axis, and Ceres is semi-square the New Moon. A Solar eclipse, this one in Water, is a new beginning, and that can come gently, like a tide lapping at the shore, or fiercely, like a wave crashing on the beach—but in either case, it brings change, which may slowly pull the sand from beneath your feet, can knock those feet out from under you, and/ or could even wipe the landscape clean in a tsunami, leaving you in an entirely new place. Change, then, is expected, and with Pluto opposed the event and conjoined the Earth, the very ground on which we walk, we may want to be highly attentive to the mix of Water and Earth, emotion and the material, flow and static states, in our world.

This event in a Water sign also emphasizes the emotional component eclipses already carry, as they are mainly Lunar events, with the Moon playing the pivotal role, either in blocking the Sun’s light from us (a Solar eclipse) or acting as the screen on which we observe the blocking of the light (by the Earth, as it moves between Moon and Sun) in a Lunar eclipse. This Solar eclipse event doubles down on the emotional, psychological, and intuitive potentials, making us all naturally hyper-sensitive to the atmosphere around the New Moon. Symbolically this speaks of, in the case of a Solar eclipse, emotions themselves causing a blockage between the material world (Earth) and ‘What Is’, including purpose and intent (the Sun). The block is meant as a disruptor, a point at which the usual view just can’t be adopted, as the light in which we view things is suddenly radically different. We keep this in mind as we look at the particulars of any eclipse event, as consciousness about the larger scenario illuminates the smaller details of the single occurrence.

Here we have the sheer power of Pluto aligned with Earth—and of course this kind of aspect always makes me think of earthquakes or volcanoes—most likely of a personal, symbolic nature, and this directly opposes the meeting of Sun and Moon on the ecliptic, so that we have Earth-Pluto, a material or physical power situation, that is receiving no light, as the Moon prevents it. That suggests that at or following the eclipse we face a real-world challenge that we’re prevented from understanding by our own emotional response.

Too, the challenge puts us in a spot: not only is our authority to respond at issue (Ceres), but we see conflicts with our goals, ambitions, and/ or desires (Zeus). The Sabian symbol for the eclipse is, ‘A Famous Singer Is Proving Her Virtuosity During An Operatic Performance’. This not only speaks of the individual need to express ourselves in a way most characteristic of us as unique individuals—to ‘sing out’—with the eclipse challenge one of performance: show us your stuff! In the context of the eclipse, what we see is that the ability to convey who we are, our strongest and most authoritative identity (Ceres) expressed in an earthly venue (Earth-Pluto) is endangered by our extreme emotional response (the eclipse), which blocks an objective assessment of the situation.

The Earth moves, and we react—and that stops a clear understanding of what’s actually happening, and so of knowing what’s actually affected. The change that happens here is serious, but not necessarily permanent; we may do best to see it more as inevitable reform, events or revelations that present us with personal power and ‘territory’ issues we hadn’t yet faced, and conflicts with ambition fulfillment we hadn’t yet acknowledged. Taking that tack tells us that what elicits our emotional reaction at the eclipse could’ve been anticipated, if we’d realized the extent to which these matters, goal achievement and our power reach, needed our attention to begin with.

Forecast for the 11th is here–
