The Full Moon occurs at 4:25 AM PDT of the 12th at 20 Capricorn 03. The Moon makes a wide quincunx to Venus and a wide square to the triumvirate Vesta-Ceres-Mars, with Vesta technically outside our usual fussy orb (even Ceres and Mars are a little farther out than usual)—but in this case Vesta’s close contact to the other two overrides my reservations. We also see a loose Grand Earth Trine with Sedna and Pallas. With a Full Moon promising culmination or fulfillment, we may find two simultaneous trends: a balancing or coming to an end of material matters involving a resolution to something that came out of our ‘blind spot’, but which we have answered with wisdom or skills—so a satisfactory ending—and another trend of new ‘problems’ or issues coming forward, these involving our own actions, our relationship to authority, assets or earnings adjustments, and our values/ what we find sacred/ and/or home and mate, and the impacts all these have on one another. It may almost feel like punishment: we’ve just managed to put out a few fires over there, and now a few more pop up over here. Darn!

Let’s look at the Sabian for inspiration as to what issues we could face. ‘A Relay Race’. Sh*t, that doesn’t sound good, does it? It sounds like we’ll be continuing that stressed state, continuing to bat at those fires with an old blanket. We may have a long way to go—the one bright spot is that a relay race involves a number of individuals, typically three others—so expect to have your three ‘allies’ made crystal clear with the Full Moon. We also look at the Sun, as it makes the light the Full Moon reflects. ‘A Famous Singer Is Proving Her Virtuosity During An Operatic Performance’. Ahh, this is nice—it implies that within all this stress and effort we show ourselves to be very talented, to be able to rise to the challenge and perform at the highest level, and this may be observed by others, with all the opportunity that implies. So there’s that.

And what about this Full Moon’s status as a ‘Super Moon’? The term has come to be used whenever there’s a Full Moon occurring near perigee (the point when the Moon is closest to the Earth).  Astronomically this is referred to as perigee-syzygy or a proxigean Moon (when the Full Moon occurs within 24 hours of perigee). But, it’s important to realize that the Moon reaches perigee once every anomalistic month (the time spanning one perigee to the next) of 27.55 days. It’s full once every Synodic period (a Synodic period is the time from one point, such as a Full Moon, to the next Full Moon) and these have an overall average of 29.53 days. It’s only when the Full phase and perigee occur roughly together that we have a ‘Super Moon’. Does this mean anything astrologically? Not really, but we can argue that we could conceivably feel this affect within the approximately 57-60% of the body that is water–after all, the Moon drives the tides, why shouldn’t this pull and create inner ‘tides’, as well? So, the ultra-sensitive among us may sense it, but the ‘Super Moon’ doesn’t, in my opinion, affect the astrology of the Full Moon event.

2 PM PDT the Scorpio Moon squares Black Moon Lilith, making for an overly gloomy outlook and atmosphere. Though Lilith is all about facing what we’d rather not, in this case we may be prompted to look in the wrong direction, toward things we feel guilty about from the past, rather than things we need to inspect now to improve the present and shape the future. Use discernment when considering matters at this point–and whatever you do, don’t take this temporarily gloomy ambiance to heart. 4 PM PDT the Moon trines the Sun and semi-sextiles Zeus. We see clearly what minor impediments are preventing ambition fulfillment–but that could mean we overlook the big stuff! This also begins a Grand Water Trine with the Sun and Chiron, suggesting that we easily see how to heal, especially in emotional terms. 6 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Saturn, acts as apex to a Finger of God with base of Venus-Uranus, and sextiles Pallas. Emotional and/or intuitive prompts can guide us well, requiring Self-assertion in relationship (or original efforts at earning) in order to bring about real-world results. We should see something concrete occur (or the foundation for it poured) at this time.

4 AM PDT of the 2nd the Virgo Moon opposes Neptune. Either we are consumed with imaginative or creative expression, or we have a microscope trained on the details, procedures, and organization of our surroundings. Neither extreme is as productive as a viewpoint that takes that detailed focus and applies it to creating–try to land there. 6 AM PDT the Moon squares Juno. Being critical toward those in charge is useless, but sharing the right knowledge with them can gain you a lot of ground. 10 AM PDT the Moon trines Earth/ sextiles the Sun and squares Venus. We are grounded, so it’s just confusing when we run up against relationship conflict or financial negatives–we feel like it shouldn’t be happening. Trust what surrounds you, what you can hold in your hand, and let anything reported, insinuated, or threatened fall by the wayside. Likely as not those implied problems will never actually appear. 3 PM PDT the Moon trines Pluto. Emotional depth comes easily at this point; we can relate at a very intense level. The inclination might be to dig down where and with whomever we are at the moment, but caution is in order: just because we can get down to the bare bones doesn’t mean we should. 7 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Pallas. We are in touch through intuition and emotion with our inner wisdom–ask it what you need to know. 11 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Uranus and sextiles Saturn. We’re seeking security by shaking things up–a contradictory stance if there ever was one. Consider that’s not the most logical way to get from A to B.

28 June: 6 AM PDT of the 28th the Cancer Moon squares Vesta-Ceres. We care about something and that caring conflicts with our highest values and/ or will get us in trouble with authorities. When does this happen? When we love someone who will lead us down a bad path, when we know that the right thing to do is also wrong in the eyes of the establishment, when we are betrayed and have always believed we would walk away in this situation, but find ourselves staying against all better judgment. How to assess our position? We need to make caring about our own welfare top priority; if being involved in the situation means we won’t be respected in some way, it’s time to go. 2 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Sedna and catches stationary retrograde Mercury at the midpoint. Merc is paused for direction–he may act as the outlet for the emotional ‘blind spot’. Watch your own communications for what they can tell you about hidden feelings or motives within you; careful observation should be quite revealing. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Jupiter. Feelings are exaggerated; someone may insist they care more than is reasonable. Look for what they might get out of taking such a stance. Void begins at 6:03 PM PDT; the Moon enters Leo at 1:43 AM Pacific time of the 29th.

29 June: we are aware that there’s a danger we could base our actions on past hurt, but we should know that the real influence is buried feeling, instinct, and hidden matters—not that that’s necessarily better, or worse! Adding to our, what? confusion? is a strong sense that relationships and financial matters are not what they seem. The way to handle this discomfiting influence is to channel our energy into a purely creative project, one that does not depend on others, or on obtaining new assets, before going forward. Work with what you have; action brings forward skills, draws inspiration from the unseen, and could, eventually, pay. (Mars quincunx Chiron, contra-parallel Sedna, Venus square Neptune, Sun trine Neptune)

Weighing Libra

Being Fair; Giving In—Or Not; Judging, and feeling they have the right to judge (reflected by Saturn’s exaltation in the sign), Libra assesses everything she contacts, and sets the standard for aesthetics, partnerships, for the worth of things, and in many ways, that’s her place. Libra is a set of contradictions: appreciating but wanting more; generous (insisting on sharing!) but also insisting that everyone else shares equally, as well; thinking about the other—but in the context of the Self; cooperating—but only if you do, too!
What appears to the onlooker to be indecisiveness is anything but; when asked to choose, Libra must ponder, weigh, and extrapolate. One of their strengths that’s often overlooked is that Libra thinks (it’s an Air sign, we musn’t forget) everything through to the bitter end before venturing an opinion or committing, which means once committed Libra’s loyalty is fixed, like its element. Libra’s completeness of thought is a plus mistaken for stupidity, timidity, or no preference at all—but Libra always has a preference—how could a being ruled by aesthetics, beauty, and the worth of things not?
Libra is seen as a social sign, but that isn’t quite right—it’s just me and you, not a crowd, and if we’re not speaking (a favorite tactic of Air signs), then a partnership with an unhappy Libra can be a lonely place, indeed.

New Moon at 5 Cancer 37 on 27 June: Creativity and Its Pitfalls

The Cancer New Moon trines Neptune, and with some leniency for non-Ptolemaic aspects, we can count it as semi-sextile the Juno-Venus combo in Gemini. This makes for new beginnings that are strongly emotional and are relationship, values, information, or communion-oriented; it also may generate emotion-driven creativity, inspiration, and imagination that have an agenda of furthering communication and caring. What we musn’t overlook, though, is that relationships and empowerment issues (especially whose ‘rights’ are granted by whom) will play a bigger part than we expect; they will act as an undercurrent, and issues of status, control, and emotional ‘territory’ will loom large in expression of NM energies. One important thing we must note about Juno-Venus is the potential for co-opting others’ resources, energy, relationships, or even ideas (the Gemini placement), as well as the possibility of jealousy surrounding creative energy expression. It’s not pretty, but it’s a whole picture, one that can equip us to create and protect our creation—for certainly that’s part of the Cancer mandate, a facet of nurture and care—and surely we know by now that to reject the darkness is to invite it in, sit it in the best chair, and give it a muffin.

What we’re thinking may be at odds with what’s wise–let feelings break the tie. 3 AM PDT the Moon fills in the base to a Finger of God with Black Moon Lilith, apex Pluto. It’s time to look at emotional secrets, those things we’d hoped to keep hidden, and deal with them for good; the payoff will be a clean slate, and maybe a little power. 9 AM PDT the Moon trines Zeus; our intuition supports our ambitions, and act as an excellent guide. 11 AM PDT the Moon sextiles Uranus and trines Mars. We act (or talk about acting) but surprise ourselves or others with the unexpected, the innovative, or the original. Go with it. 1 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Saturn and squares Chiron. We may find ourselves adjusting the surroundings to fit our wounds; protect yourself, but realize too much coddling may actually prevent healing. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon trines Vesta-Ceres. We connect with what’s important to us through feeling–and behind that we find power.

We may perceive a real distance between our innermost compulsions and temptations and our intellectual understanding of what it is that we need. The best approach to level ground between the two may be to translate those needs through the intuition–skip what you think and go with what you feel. 7:30 AM PDT the Moon trines Mars. Taking action or making choices is easy–the mind is clear on the direction we’d like to take, in spite of Merc’s retro status–or perhaps, because of that apparent backward motion, the mind gets out of its own way that much more easily. If we need cooperation from others, now’s the time to ask. 10:30 AM PDT the Moon trines Zeus. The emotional reactions support the ambitions and desires–without conflict within the feeling nature, we can pursue our wants at twice the usual speed and efficiency. Noon the Moon sextiles Uranus. Spontaneity that rises from our mood can bring surprising and enlightening experiences. 2 PM PDT the Moon trines Vesta, squares Saturn, and semi-sextiles Chiron. Something in the reality scenario gets in the way of us being able to honor those causes to which we’re dedicated, or to spend adequate time on the home front or with the mate–and this results in some hurt, our own or someone else’s. The Full Moon forms the apex of a Finger of God with base of Jupiter-Sedna, with no other aspects falling within our strict three (at most!) degree orb. This promises a culmination of a matter related to the House in which this FM falls in the natal chart, an ending with a Sagittarian theme. The involved energies, Jupiter, Sedna, and the Moon, in themselves contradict one another: where Jupiter is about accumulated knowledge, Sedna and the Moon are about feeling, especially the kind of feeling that is pre-verbal, instinctive, and reactive; where Jupiter is about sharing and getting the word out, Sedna and the Moon are involved in the personal experience, and those experiences are of the kind that may never be shared with others; Jupiter represents the external and exotic, those things in the world we might visit or learn about, things that expand our Universe, while Sedna and the Moon represent internal qualities and a landscape only we can see and visit. Aligned as they are in a Finger, we can gather that a meeting of that external, Jupiterian, knowledge-based circumstance and the internal, instinct-guided, Sedna-type of knowledge and awareness (which are typically consciously hidden from us and make up our ‘blind spot’) will, if successfully achieved, result in an emotional ending or culmination. Keep in mind, though, that the Moon is also a principal indicator of the passage of time, so that this ending (Full Moon) may not actually have an emotional component, but may instead simply indicate a closing out of a particular period, and so represent the passage of time, or possibly a sense of satisfaction gained by successful utilization of both sides of the base energies.

It may be easy to allow simple talk to slide into criticism-but then again, critical faculties are in shape. Focus them consciously, to avoid nit-picking. 5 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Pallas. Wisdom and guidance can be found in emotion, while skills can almost be acquired intuitively! 9 PM PDT the Moon opposes Neptune. We may reject the creative option for the one we can control–or, we are solidly married to the facts; fiction doesn’t stand a chance. 11 PM PDT the Moon trines Venus. The perfect time for accounting chores or relationship ones that deal with responsibilities.

Today’s word image is a small vial of oil, forgotten at the back of a cupboard and discovered again; removing the stopper, it smells of crushed roses. Expect the re-discovery of or reconnection with something you ‘put away’ a long time ago–and the connection may be stirred through scent.

2 AM PDT of the 29th the Gemini Moon sextiles Uranus and trines Zeus. Spontaneous discussion or thought on ambitions and desires is on the agenda. It’s a good time to network–you can get the support you need by showing your uniqueness–or if you’re on your own you’ll have good ideas and can ponder inventive moves to take you closer to your goals. 4 AM PDT the Moon trines Vesta. You are in harmony on the home front, with the mate, or with those causes to which you are dedicated. Use this flow to enhance the relationship. 6 AM PDT the Moon squares Chiron. We may shut down over hurt, or meet the challenge and pull Chirotic skills into the mix–your choice. 8 AM PDT the Moon trines Ceres and quincunxes Saturn. Who holds authority is up for discussion–and negotiations will necessitate some changes to the rules or boundaries currently in place. 11 AM PDT the Moon hits the midpoint of Juno-Jupiter. We see the emotional repercussions of serious power struggles–or we are emotionally caught in the middle of some sort of parental-feeling dispute. Ideas about who’s right may change with the wind–so stay neutral and out of it, if possible, and remember, it’s not really your fight. Unofficially, the Void begins at 11:45 AM PDT as it leaves the midpoint–officially it begins at 9:15 AM PDT as the Moon leaves quincunx with Saturn–but that’s only if you count the quincunx. Traditionalists begin the Void at 9:07 AM as the Moon leaves trine to Ceres–but that’s only if you use asteroids. If you want only strict Ptolemaic aspects and major bodies, we see the Void begin at 3 AM Pacific. The Moon enters Cancer at 7:14 AM PDT of the 30th. No matter where you start it, this is a very long Void. Generally, things go unexpectedly, and efforts begun at this time often as not come to nothing–so conserve your ammo, as they say, just for now.
